before Covid-19 we had a social life

that we needed to organize

Young Life

We got 3 cats from Sue, this one is our favourite

she's very friendly, but she also has 5 kittens

and not hiding them, so fun

in the apple tree there's new life too

Robin chicks

Garden Preparation

the tomatoes are still tiny

pansies are planted 

daffodils are flowering

this evening we planted potatoes, carrots, beets spinach

covered them to get an early start on the season

Cultivate first round

First round of likely 4 times cultivating 

making a nice seed bed for corn and beans

Slats in the mudhole

there was a pretty large mudhole

the mud went out

sand went in

and slats on top, looks almost ready to let the cows out

Social distance shopping

Went to Costco Waterloo, had to stand in line in the cold

markers on the pavement and pellets between lines

The line went pretty fast

Still cool

we are below average in temperature these days

a while ago, in March it was better

we cleaned up the lawn 

we do have nice sunsets regularly

Cold Spring

we're still running the wood furnace

Extra wood was dumped into the basement

this is our outside world

average temp for now is +13C, not happening today

interesting is that there's a schoolbus driving down our road

Sun and Wind

Yesterday was a nice windy sunny day

the daffodils are almost blooming 

so far these flowers have done great

Slow start Spring

It was cool this week

the wheat didn't grow much yet

went for a walk, it was 11C but temperatures falling fast

Back to the Bush

the regular chain saw was out of fuel

so we finish up with the pole saw

we seem to use more gas in our chainsaw 

then in our cars these days

improving the Bush

we went to the Maple bush

to dig up some young maples

about 15 to improve a bush on the William's Farm

it was a cold ride

back to snow

and more to come BR

Splitting Wood

still splitting wood

and taking it all to the William's Farm

homemade Yogurt

heat about 2 liters (quarts) of milk 

1 teaspoon yogurt from a previous batch

(you start the first batch with yogurt powder

heat till almost 60C 135F

store in warm place (in my case microwave)

for about 15 hours

store in fridge after that
