Madison Oct 3-7

we went for a tour of a Rosendale Farm

no pictures allowed except for 2 places

group picture
there are 9 milk trucks loading, they have 13 full trucks a day

first stop was the just harvested pile of corn silage

the centre is 46' or 14 meters high

our tour guide and her boss

her husband and son were going up the pile
to put more tires on, it takes a few days

so many tires, and this is the smaller pile

there's 100 acre of cement here where the barns
and feed are

they use a lot of custom work for field work

and manure hauling

next stop where we could take pictures is the parlour

they've started cross breeding with Jersey
to get a smaller cow

the cows they show at Madison are at a different place

they've also recently started milking goats
22.000 of them

Madison Oct 3-7

most of the people from our bus

we went to the international lounge a few times
met some other international visitors
and had some coffee

also a meal on Friday

one of the trips was shopping and to Olive Garden
to eat, but we couldn't find the new one
It would have helped if they'd taken down the old one

the first mall looked very deserted
but was doing better according to some people
who worked there

The next try was some big stores and was much more
attractive for shopping

Wisconsin Oct 3-7

 Walking the barns

over 2000 cows on site at the world dairy expo

cows are so well treated

this cow's name is June and she is 17 years old

she was born in the barn of Rob and Alice
who were in our bus on the same tour

June apperently loves to go to a show

a very content cow

on show day cows get washed (again)

and cared for so they look their very best

we saw someone putting tail extentions on a cow
then we saw this whole display

these cows all had monitors above them that
gave more info about them

the cows have lots of space

and are well loved, 2 young people leaning / resting
on them

for a while we talked to a man who is passionate
about Brown Swiss cows, he also talked about
his father being one of the founders of this show
and later in the big arena we saw him get an award

Wisconsin Oct 3-7

next tour is at Hoard's Dairyman

the magazine and the farm go together
we used to have a subscription, but we let it go

this time we did walk in the barn

feed pusher

it did leave a film on the floor

Guernsey is the cow of choice

holstein cows are used as recipients

Blue robots

what really surprised us was all these bags
no bunks for that much feed is interesting

This farm was run very different
than the Crave brothers we saw earlier
