Looking Back; Into the Desert

On day 3 we started our hiking in a wadi

This wadi floods about every 10 years
from rain falling a great distance away
The water will came rushing down
on the way to the dead sea
It takes out the paved road every time

The shade "tree" of the desert
a broom tree

grass just a bite for the sheep
we didn't see any sheep here but we saw the droppings

Sitting in the shade of the rock
we were asked to think about what a desert is during our hike
Hot, Relentless, Beautiful etc...

 Lunch

40 years in the desert, the Israelites were most often in the
Desert of Zin

This is part of the Desert of Zin,
not as sandy as you might have thought

 It was very hot
Thinking about the Israelites complaining, I can understand

In a shaded section we sat down and contemplated
 our own "desert experiences"
some of us shared our stories

We seldom went back the way we came
This time we had started low and climbed the whole time
To get out we had to climb these very steep walls

we visited the biggest Acacia tree in Israel
