Day 6 Qumran

breakfast as usual 6.30 am
Lauren Tatiana Matt and Carter

to the bus with our suitcases

I like our busdriver Egol's T-shirt

after devotions we go on the bus

we arrive at Qumran
where we are entertained again by Ibex

In Habakkuk 3
it says that even if everything goes wrong
he'll still rejoice in the Lord:

The sovereign Lord is my strength
he makes my feet like the feet of a deer (Ibex)
he enables me to tread on the heights

here in Qumran lived the Essenes
in Jesus' time
they were called 'the sons of light"

They took Isaiah 40 seriously

A voice of one calling
in the wilderness prepare
the way for the Lord
make straight in the desert
a highway for our God

this is also the area
where the dead sea scrolls were found
Essenes had a priestly connection
scrolls were not disposed off they were
buried in jars of pottery

apparently the first few dead sea scrolls
were found were in this cave

There's a lot of ritual baths
water had to come from far

It came through the mountains

up in the hills

caves and water troughs

some checked it out

the tribe of Dan
we took turns to be the tribe of Dan

Numbers 2:
All the men assigned to the camp of Dan
number 157,600
They will set out last,
under their standards

The tribe of Dan in this case would be last
help those who were lingering behind
this tribe had some volunteers added

take a sip at the top

echo in the mountain

we're glad we made it up again

we admire the Essenes who lived out here
totally dedicated to living a righteous life
(Marlene and Arie)

last time coming down a mountain in the desert
